At Allinio, sometimes we say things that are extreme to make a point. Now we want to show you something extreme to make a point. You may grimace at the spectacle of it, but you won’t turn away. We’ve looked at this dozens of times to the very end. Why?
Because this video is an allegory of you, the Marketer, going to your boss, president, CEO, board or investors to try to get something approved. Maybe you think it’s the best thing since sliced bread. Maybe it’s Marketing Automation. Maybe it’s an increased budget. The trouble is that they don’t necessarily “think” like a Marketer does so you end up bruised and sore afterwards, figuratively speaking.
The key is to approach them on their terms, not yours. If you can’t, don’t. Speak in financial terms. Talk about risk. Conjecture about tradeoffs. Explain timelines and opportunity costs. Now, you may still get a verbal spanking from being a Marketer that thinks outside the box, but you won’t get gored like these poor señors. Get the point (no pun intended)?
